Champ Hardy is a recurring character in Season 1 of Wynonna Earp.
Biography[]
Champ picked on girls as a kid until Waverly Earp kicked him in the nuts. Their relationship must have changed at some point because according to Wynonna, Champ and Waverly were high school sweethearts. Champ is a former rodeo star and now works as a ranch hand and handyman for hire.
History[]
Season 1[]
In Purgatory, he walks in and playfully asks if Carl got beat up by another girl, causing the man to walk away from Wynonna. Wynonna tells him that she wanted to talk to him about her uncle and they head upstairs in a room. He tells her he's not a fan of funerals when she mentions he didn't make it to her uncle's funeral and shamelessly flirts with her. She pushes him on the bed, jumps on him and pulls out a knife, asking about Curtis. He tells her he heard screaming and ran, but was told that Curtis' head was torn off. He also mentions that he died on the Earp homestead and before she can do anything, Waverly bursts in the room with a shotgun.
In Leavin' on Your Mind, he talks with Shorty while they are at the surplus store and accidentally bumps into Marty, who admires Champ's body. He and others in the store are taken hostage by the three revenants and are led to the back. As he, Wynonna and Shorty are taken to a location, Wynonna reassures them that nothing's going to happen and needs to get her gun. After Sam shoots Marty, Sam reveals that he plans on using Champ's body as a means of possession to exit the boundary. As Sam begins the ritual, Wynonna tells Champ to go and he runs away, swearing he'll get help. He runs into Dolls, asking about backup, and is told to leave as Dolls says he's all the backup Wynonna needs. As a memorial for Shorty is being held at his bar, Champ kisses Waverly repeatedly and after Nicole walks away, he remarks that there's something about her that rubs him the wrong way. Waverly mentions that Wynonna said he was very brave and he reassures her that he's never leaving her side again.
In Constant Cravings, he helps Waverly going through her uncle Curtis' belongings and tells her he helped Curtis when he wanted to look for things buried from the past. As Waverly and Wynonna discuss about the Tates, Champ uncovers the tarp that was covering the motorcycle Curtis left for Wynonna. He later listens to Waverly as she tries to figure out the clue that Curtis left for her and eventually uncovers the skull of an unknown man. He acts immaturely and she tells him she doesn't want to be a barmaid in Buenos Aires, saying that they're done.
In House of Memories, he attends the party with the other residents of Purgatory at the Wainwright Hotel. He watches Nicole and Waverly, and drunkenly comes up to Nicole after Waverly leaves. He tells her he saw them and calls it "disgusting", leaving Nicole angered at his response. Afterwards, he comes up to Waverly and Nicole, mentioning to everyone that Waverly is dating a cop and Randy tells him to back down. He begins frothing and goes to Waverly until Nicole hits him, and then handcuffs him. He held down by Nicole and Randy as Bobo Del Rey goes to him, showing everyone what will happen to them since they drunk the poisoned champagne.
Relationships[]
Waverly Earp[]
Relationship: ex-Girlfriend;
They breakup in the episode Constant Cravings because he was being inconsiderate and didn't seem to understand her, or what the skull that Curtis left her meant. He wanted to "shut her brain off" and have sex, while Waverly wanted to focus on the skull and what exactly it meant, and why Curtis had left it to her. She had become tired of his inconsideration for her feelings and the situation she was in.
Nicole Haught[]
Relationship: Enemies
Champ dislikes Nicole either because of his homophobia, his jealousy of her relationship with Waverly, or both.
