"Everything good was given to you: freedom, flaxen hair, family. And what did I get? I got shunned, starved, reviled. But we're equals now, because nobody loves you either."
―  Jolene to Waverly Earpsrc

Jolene is somewhat Waverly Earp's evil, demonic twin, a darkness born to balance her light when she was born.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Jolene was a demon born, on the same day and on the exact same time as Waverly, as the universe's way of maintaining balance because Waverly was born out of the light, being the child of an angel. Waverly's mother Michelle Gibson saw her and felt her hatred for Waverly. Michelle tried to exorcise her one evening in their barn but succeeded only in binding Jolene to her and setting the barn on fire.(3x05: "Jolene")

Because it seemed like Michelle was going to kill Waverly, she was sentenced to prison for twenty years and was sent to the Ghost River Triangle Institution. Jolene was with her the entire time, torturing her and speaking to her, making Michelle look crazy whenever she responded to Jolene. There were times when Jolene got violent and would hurt other prisoners around Michelle, making the latter seem dangerous.(3x04: "No Cure For Crazy")

Season 3[]

In No Cure For Crazy, Waverly visited Michelle in prison for the first time since she was institutionalized. When Waverly touched Michelle, she unwittingly released her from her binding to Michelle. Jolene followed her to the Earp homestead and later, when Michelle arrived in hopes of banishing her again, Jolene revealed herself and put Waverly and her friends, Nicole, and Doc, under her trance, giving them the illusion that she was their friend.

In Jolene, she used her demonic powers to enthrall Waverly and her friends and family, sowing divisions between them to pursue her ultimate plan of driving Waverly to suicide, as something (presumably the link between them) prevents her from harming Waverly directly. Her attempts ultimately failed, with Waverly recognizing the love her friends and family have for her. Shortly thereafter, Wynonna and Michelle arrive, free from Jolene's enthrallment, and pursue her after Wynonna wounds her with Peacemaker. Before they catch her, however, Bulshar turned her into a tree as punishment for pursuing her own objectives over his plans.

Season 4[]

In Life Turned Her That Way,

Physical Appearance[]

Jolene has two forms, her human disguise that she displays to those she's enthralled, and her true form. As a human, she has dark hair and eyes, and at first dressed in a homey manner, frequently wearing a floral-print apron, although later, largely as part of her ploy to drive a wedge between Waverly and Nicole, opted for studded pants and a low-cut shirt to make Waverly jealous of her.

In her true form, she has black hair and eyes, a monstrous face, pointy teeth, and wears a fur cape.

Personality[]

She feigns being generous and sweet, but what lies beneath is pure jealousy and malice. What stems from her jealousy and malice, besides being a demon born, is seeing Waverly being loved and cherished, while Jolene was despised and tossed aside. She is extremely sadistic and murderous, having no regard for any life except if said person suited her needs.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Mind Control - She is able to exert influence over the minds of anyone who eats pastries that she's prepared.
