Margo-Jean Clanton[1] was a recurring character in Season 4 of Wynonna Earp.
Biography[]
Margo was raised by a very historical family who passed on their centuries-old hatred for the Earp family, due to Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday killing the majority of their family line at the O.K. Corral. Margo learned to despise the Earp's and everyone whom she deemed "Earp lovers" and taught her children, Holt, Cleo, and Billy, to hate the Earps and their clan as well.
Margo reached out to Rosita Bustillos prior to the events of "I Hope You Dance", and was interested in buying Wynonna Earp and Doc Holliday's newborn daughter. Rosita agreed to deliver the child in exchange for her freedom, however, her efforts failed and Margo never received the child. The Clanton's returned to Purgatory during the eighteen-months in which Wynonna Earp, Waverly Earp, and Doc Holliday were missing.
Margo opened a junkyard and ranch she donned "Magpie's", while her older children integrated themselves into Purgatory's legal systems and overthrew Nicole Haught, a known "Earp lover".
History[]
Season 4[]
In Afraid, Margo appears when Nicole and Waverly come to Magpie's Junkyard in search of a sword. She stops Waverly from going into a barn, claiming the items in there aren't for sale but she'll show them where the for sale things are.
Waverly claims they’re looking for swords and Nicole brushes it off as a Halloween costume, as she’s going as She-Ra. Waverly takes a call from Wynonna and leaves. Margo greets Nicole who knows the woman. Margo claims they’ve recently come into some lovely rings that Nicole might be interested in now that Waverly has been returned to her. Margo tells Nicole it’s time for her to deliver, but Nicole just wants Margo to stay away from them.
When Rachel interrupts the trio asking to leave, Margo claims she'll keep an eye out for any swords.
That night, Margo is carving a dagger when Billy walks in and she scolds him for bringing Earps and an Earp lover onto their land. He knows what has to happen now and he asks for the chance to make things right. She found the photo of Billy and Rachel in the bunk and comments that she will reap that girl if he doesn’t handle things. When Billy fails in his duties and returns home, she chains him up outside. He is scared that she'll kill Rachel, but Margo insists she won't - Billy is going to do it. She summons a Reaper and Billy screams as the Reaper stands over him.
Sheriff Holt listens to the screaming from inside the house when Margo enters. Cleo claims they can teach Billy to respect tradition and Holt doesn’t want to begin while Billy’s still out there but eventually concedes. The trio takes hands and Margo shoves her thumb into Cleo’s open hand wound causing her extreme pain. Margo reminds her that the Repears aren’t attack dogs but their ancestors. Holt can’t believe Cleo sent Uncle Ike after Wynonna. Cleo claims Wynonna is weak and now is the time. Margo is the Clanton heir and she alone dictates when they unleash Hell on the Earp’s. She releases Margo who whimpers in pain. Margo then starts dinner as they take hands to say a prayer to never forget or forgive.
Nicole visits Margo that night and gives her back an object as she owes her nothing. She tells them that Doc and Waverly got themselves out of the garden, not Margo. Margo opens the jar and something otherwordly swarms out of it and into Nicole’s mouth.
In Holy War Part One, Cleo is at home trying to cut an onion while Holt remarks she’s butchering it. Her hand is still hurting but it’s fine. Margo enters but scoffs at Cleo’s emotions even though they’re from the onion. Margo has been obsessed with the happenings at the OK corral since in a half a minute their whole clan was wiped out. When she dies, the charm she possesses will transfer to her children as their legacy will be left in their hands. She has a plan set to end to the Earps. Holt wants to know the plan before he celebrates with Cleo asking the same. Margo explains that Doc Holliday and the Earps don’t deserve to die, they deserve to be destroyed - by each other.
In Holy War Part Two, Margo looks at a dying frog in a jar and remarks that Nicole is testing their bonds and what she gave she can take away. She gets a knife and cuts open her palm, chanting “an eye for an eye, a breath for a breath, seek and destroy, and be joined in death”. The blood falls onto a Clanton cursed rock where Waverly’s newspaper article for winning the nicest person award in Purgatory is. She whistles and a Reaper awakens, and Margo commands it to attack Waverly Earp - while Rachel watches from behind a wall.
At the Sanctuary of the Scorned Woman, Rosita Bustillos tells Wynonna that Margo-Jean Clanton was the one who wanted to buy Wynonna and Doc's newborn child.
Later that day, Waverly storms into the Magpie’s barn with a shotgun, commenting on the dump. Her OCD makes her organize the jars just as Margo walks in. Waverly tells her to fix her hex or she’ll kill her, but Margo claims she can’t. Margo asks how she knew what door to take out of the garden - it was because Margo made it happen. Nicole begged her so she showed Doc the way. Nicole was so feeble in her begs so she made a deal for Nicole to bring Doc to the Clanton’s as punishment for what happened at the O.K. Corral. Margo wants to ruin everything about Doc - his name, his reputation, make him destroy everything she loves. Waverly asks who cares about the OK Corral anymore after all these years but asks Margo to release Nicole. Margo counters that Waverly is young and will find someone else, but Waverly would rather die than be without Nicole. Margo uses this vulnerability to attack and grab the gun from Waverly. Margo then screams that her ancestors will devour Nicole as she has powers Waverly can’t even comprehend. Waverly shouts that she does too and puts her hands on the sides of Margo’s head. Margo screams and cries as she falls to the ground, blood running out of her eyes.
Her son Holt Clayborn tried to seek revenge against Waverly for killing his mother, but Doc is able to talk him down by saying that the bloodshed must end with this. Holt agrees to let it go this time, but as he is walking away, Wynonna shoots him in the back and ends the Clanton line.
