Wynonna Earp: Bad Day at Black Rock is a graphic novel written by Beau Smith and Tim Rozon as part of the Wynonna Earp comic book series reboot/TV tie-in continuity. Its publication was funded by a Kickstarter project that ran from October to November 2018.

Plot[]

There's a prison break at Black Rock and it's a family affair! Wynonna Earp returns to action in this original graphic novel!

Wynonna Earp, descendant of the legendary gunslinger Wyatt Earp, and her whole family are members of the U.S. Marshals Black Badge Division—a unit dedicated to protecting the world from all things that go bump in the night. Two of their greatest assets in the fight against evil are the Division's relative secrecy and Black Rock Prison, the only facility capable of holding major paranormal threats, and both were just exposed. That means it's time for Bobo Del Rey, Wynonna's old enemy, to step up his plans on a breakout to free his brother. It's family against family as the Earp clan and the Del Rey's go head-to-head in a rip-roaring, knock-down, drag out fight to escape the Bad Day at Black Rock.[1][2]

Kickstarter[]

The Kickstarter Project campaign for the graphic novel was launched on October 10, 2018 and ended on November 9, 2018,[3] earning a total of $132,425 from a total of 1,894 backers.

Certain stretch goals rewarded backers who pledged a certain amount or enough to get a packaged tier with the graphic novel, while others benefited all potential buyers. When they raised $45,000 and $80,000, the graphic novel was extended with 8 and then 4 additional pages, respectively.

At $70,000 and $75,000, original short prose stories written by Melanie Scrofano and Tim Rozon were included in the graphic novel, and the $100,000 stretch goal added the 8-page WayHaught (#WayCold) comic co-written by Beau Smith, Dominique Provost-Chalkley (Waverly) and Katherine Barrell (Officer Haught).

Some backer exclusive freebies and add-ons included the signed deluxe hardcover edition, Season 1 and 2 of Wynonna Earp on Blu-ray, exclusive lithographs (of the cover art featuring Wynonna and Wayhaught art) and coasters, a deck of cards with Wynonna Earp images, the Wynonna Earp: Season Zero graphic novel, and a 1000-piece Wynonna Earp puzzle with art by Lora Innes.[4]
