"See, you're dead. Again. And unlike revenants, you can't come back to life."
"Except as a ghost. I'll haunt your ass sideways."
Wynonna Earp

Xavier Pamela Dolls (c. 1989) was a Deputy Marshal of Black Badge Division. Xavier was a love interest of Wynonna Earp.

Biography[]

Dolls is a Black Badge Division Agent. He is assigned to investigate what is happening in Purgatory and ends up helping the Earps contain the revenant population. He is a genetically modified human that is mixed with something along the lines of a dragon. At the end of She Ain't Right, Dolls was seen blowing fire from his mouth, showing that he has dragon DNA.

History[]

Season 1[]

In Purgatory, Dolls makes his debut while investigating a gruesome murder scene. He tells Sheriff Nedley that the attack wasn't Coyotes, but advises that this should be the official report. Dolls follows Wynonna much to her annoyance asking questions which hint that he is not the regular law enforcement. Ultimately, Dolls helps Wynonna save Waverly when she was almost hung by Revenants. After this he successfully recruited, or blackmailed, Wynonna into the Black Badge Division. Dolls took a section of the police office for the division and made it off limits to the other officers. This along with his recruitment of Wynonna did not rub well with the other officers.

In Keep the Home Fires Burning, Wynonna begins as a consultant deputy of Black Badge Division and received her first assignment from Dolls. After giving a speech on how to behave in public and being discreet, he gives her a standard government issue gun in place of Peacemaker. Wynonna argues for Peacemaker but eventually gives up and leaves Dolls in the car.

Still waiting in the car Dolls witnesses the hoard of people rushing out of the bar. He proceeds into the building only to find a not so discreet Wynonna has shot Red in the chest three times. Disapproving of the entire situation Dolls grabs only to notice that Red is no longer laying on the floor.

While at the Sheriff Station Dolls calls Wynonna to discuss the ammolite in the ground that the house is built on. After figuring that the ammolite helps keep the Revenants off the Homestead, Dolls tells Wynonna what they are supposed to be looking for, which is a talisman. Once Dolls gives an idea of where the talisman is Wynonna notices that it is beginning to get dark awfully early in the day. Dolls says that he is on his way, and they end the phone call. Dolls arrives at the perfect time and helps protect Waverly as Wynonna does her thing with an ending catchphrase in style. But while Waverly digs up the talisman Levi, another Revenant, tries to attack Wynonna but ends up fighting Dolls. And before Dolls can wound him Wynonna gives him a message and Waverly throws the talisman back over the line.

In Leavin' on Your Mind, he listens to Waverly's research presentation and asks about identification of the revenants, to which Waverly states she had a ledger, but she has a hunch on most of them. He tells her his superiors frown upon hunches and want results, while also telling her she gave great resources. He starts gathering the folders of research, but they are interrupted by Nicole Haught, who tells him they received unusual news through the wire and he exits. He and Wynonna look at the photos of the deputy mayor's severed hand and his many times stabbed body, while wondering why the revenants would take a journal and kill in front of many witnesses. As they watch a video of the three revenants cutting off Mel Cleghorn's hand, Dolls notes they could be acquiring items for a ritual as a way to get out of the Ghost River Triangle.

He tells Wynonna that the grave Marty was digging belonged to Stanley Gatewood, a former worker of the Bank of Purgatory. The two find the van Marty, Samuel Larson and Gary Smith are using and track them at a surplus store where the bank was formerly. Unfortunately, Sam sees Dolls and Wynonna, so he tells Gary and Marty they'll be taking hostages. Dolls hands Wynonna a phone as she offers herself up to the revenants as she has items that they want. He asks for Peacemaker as they won't let her in if she has it, he then points a gun as she walks to the door. He tells Sam that if he harms Wynonna, he and the revenants will suffer a fate far worse than death. As a few of the hostages exit the store, Dolls talks to Nicole and tells her to call Waverly to let her know about her sister. As the revenants escort Shorty, Champ and Wynonna out as hostages, he tells Nicole and Randy to clear the scene as he tracks the van. He keeps watch from afar as Champ runs off, he meets up with him and cuts the bonds on his hands. He tells him that he's all the backup Wynonna needs and allows him to leave. He readies to aim Peacemaker and shoot, but the gun doesn't go off, leading Dolls to hit Sam on the head with a rock. As she shoots Sam's corpse and Marty, Dolls tells her Sam is in her friend's body and that there's no other way. As a memorial is being held at Shorty's bar, he talks to Nicole about the time capsule and an update on Shorty's autopsy. He walks up to Wynonna that while it's tough, it'll eventually pass and Wynonna walks away from him, angered that he didn't come to help them on time as Shorty could've lived instead.

In The Blade, he meets up with Wynonna at the crime scene of Megan Halshford. The two later head to the trailer park to talk to Robert Malick after gaining Bobo's permission and see that Malick is not responsible, given that he has no legs. After Wynonna sees the razor wielding revenant, Dolls tells her he had the plates tracked to the last person Megan saw and they go to talk to Samantha Baker. After they finish talking to Samantha, he listens to Wynonna reveal that she was partially responsible for Megan killing Samantha's father in a hit and run, and he mentions that she was only 16 at the time. They are later called in for a murder at Shorty's and Dolls has Doc arrested, given that he is a suspect and interrogates him at the police station. He realizes Doc is the Doc Holliday and asks why Wynonna didn't tell him, but the two are interrupted by Nedley, who says that Wynonna has a call.

The two head to Jay and Suzie Novak's home where they listen to her mentioning that her husband had been talking about "repenting" and "forgiveness". The two eventually come to the realization that revenant can come through reflective surfaces and go to cover the mirrors, but the revenant kills Suzie and gives Wynonna two hours to ask for forgiveness. As the team figures out a way to summon August Hamilton and Waverly begins the spell, Dolls tells an entity, Mictian, to go away and he is soon possessed by August, threatening the group before he gets tasered. While August leaves his body, Wynonna eventually gets Dolls to wake up and threatens Doc that he'll come after him if anything happens to Wynonna.

In Diggin' Up Bones, he is walked in on by Wynonna as he is working out and tells her they have a meeting with Judge Cryderman. As the two talk, Cryderman mentions he can give them a search warrant and as they prepare themselves, Dolls tells her they need to go by the book, instead of going nuts as the situation can implode rather quickly. They begin the search in Bobo's trailer and after he makes remarks towards Wynonna, Dolls arrests him. He chastises Wynonna for what happened at the trailer park, as it made everything more difficult.

He confronts Cryderman, wondering why Bobo was a step ahead of us and when Cryderman says something about his superiors, the judge hands him a note, leaving Dolls with a serious expression. He later issues an apology to Cryderman and Bobo's lawyer, Miss Stone, for what happened at the trailer park. As they trade more remarks, an evacuation is made and he runs into Wynonna and Fish, allowing them to go. He later helps Wynonna with developing the negatives so she can gain pictures of the remaining revenants responsible for the raid on the homestead. As the picture develops, Dolls remarks that he thinks he's seen an image similar to it from beforehand.

In Constant Cravings, he spars with Wynonna until he is knocked down by her and takes quick notice of her being more limber than usual. He also begins looking more in pain and visibly sweats a little bit, but gets into a conversation with Doc about intel on Bobo. They strike a deal and more hostile glances are given but it stops soon afterwards. He and Wynonna go to the Blacksmith to ask her questions about the cattle mark seen on one of the Seven and she tells them it's the mark of the Tates. She also notices that Dolls is ill and in pain, mentioning she could help him, but he refuses. The two go to Tatenhill Farm with him telling her they need to bring one in alive for study. As they converse, a revenant shows up and throws a huge cleaver at them, to which they give chase, uncovering Herman Tate. As Dolls tries to calm the situation, Wynonna shoots Herman with Peacemaker and Dolls get angered at her as they needed to bring him in. They head back to the house, finding old photos and newspaper clippings of victims, and while back at the police station, he listens as Wynonna figures out the patterns that are being followed.

While still dealing with pain, he is confronted by Doc and tells the gunslinger the deal is off. The two trade more hostile remarks and Dolls calls Doc an "enemy". He and Wynonna head back to Tatenhill Farm and find a cellar with someone clearly living down there and human remains. Wynonna sees an unknown person and the two give chase until Dolls is knocked down and taken by Olive Tate. He tries to talk the revenant down and she reveals to him about loving the taste of human flesh, her children and takes a bite out of him, but notices his taste is different than from others. He is later rescued by Wynonna and the two get out of the cellar after she kills the two remaining revenants. He later jogs at night to meet up with someone and is told to never get ahold of him, mentioning he needs to show the people upstairs results. At the police station, he opens the suitcase and injects himself with an unknown liquid, feeling relief and as he does, his eyes turn a different color.

In Walking After Midnight, he helps Wynonna with looking for anything else on the Seven's photograph, noticing that the last has a cane, calling him a gentleman. He is later surprised she found a spade on the end of the cane and goes to get some food until he is apprehended by agents of Black Badge. He is confronted by Agent Lucado and is told that he'll have to wait for some results to come back to decide his deployment. After eight hours of waiting, Lucado comes in to tell him his division is being shut down and he mentions that he could give them something that has never been documented before by the organization.

In Two-Faced Jack, he comes out of the office as Doc hollers for him as they are notified by the gunslinger about the disappearance of Wynonna and Nicole. He and Waverly listens as Doc relies of a serial killer that he and Wyatt were trying to apprehend back then, as he had the exact spade card that was present in Nicole's squad car. They come to the conclusion that Jack is hiding somewhere in an old bootlegging facility and since Waverly is injured, Dolls and Doc head to an underground fighting club to get information from Whiskey Jim about where Jack is. Jim brokers a deal with them that if they put up a good fight, he'll give them the information. He and Doc begin duking it out as the gunslinger reveals to him that he knows of the report he gave to Black Badge about him. As Doc punches him harder, Dolls falls on the ground and doesn't move. As Doc tries to get the car going, Dolls reveals himself to be alive and that he was trained to slow down his pulse, acting as if he were dead. They head to the facility where Jack is and while they do save Wynonna, the two get into another argument. Dolls reveals to Doc that it was either Wynonna or him, so the gunslinger puts his gun down. Later, he meets up with Lucado and tells her that who he thought was Doc Holliday was actually a con artist, while also showing her a revenant, Whiskey Jim, as a way to experiment and study him.

In Bury Me With My Guns On, he surprises Wynonna that she has a psychological assessment she must do as the Head Office has ordered her to take one. He watches from a window while she takes it, but notices that the analyst has gone somewhat off record and after she fails, he asks for Wynonna's badge as she's suspended until further notice. He later talks with Randy Nedley about the paranormal cases around town and the two decide to get a drink at Shorty's. As the sheriff leaves him to socialize elsewhere, Dolls notices a revenant, Peeper, asking to give Wynonna a message and he later ties him up, putting tape across his mouth. He tells Wynonna that she passed her second assessment, which remains unknown to her, and presents Peeper to her.

In She Wouldn't Be Gone, he listens in on Bobo and his minions due to an audio surveillance Waverly placed on a golden boot. Later, after Bobo discovers the device on the boot, lets Dolls know that Wynonna has been sleeping with Doc, which leaves Dolls a tad jealous. He later goes to the warehouse where he placed Jim, but is handcuffed to the car by Wynonna who discovers his secret. He later escapes the handcuffs and they interrogate Jim about a man named Lou, who is revealed to have been friends with Bobo until they had a fallout. He gives them the location of Lou and it's revealed that woods creep Dolls out. As Wynonna wanders off elsewhere, Dolls is in awe of a cow up above and wonders where she went. He is later captured by Lou's followers and is tied up in another room upstairs. Wynonna sets him free and while heading outside, the two are confronted by Lou and his followers. They are captured once again and Lou marks them with a stigma, while also having them drink an unknown beverage. Dolls is left to wonder the woods until he finds his car and is confronted by a wolf as he takes his serum. He later finds Wynonna once again and the two head back to the house for the women and realize they might've lured the skinwalker to them as well. He takes the women upstairs as she and Eve go to stop Lou from escaping. After Lou is killed by Eve and the women are taken to the station to reunite with their families, he tells Wynonna that he found an old picture of Tadewi, Lou's first wife, in Waverly's research. He mentions some amnesia could've happened to Eve as she reveals to him that the woman could use Peacemaker.

In Landslide, he brings the DNA results back to the Earps and reveals that Eve is indeed Willa. He later comes back to the homestead to tell Wynonna that they need to go to an abandoned railway about Bradley Stokes. As they prepare their weapons, Dolls notices that Wynonna is a little distant and tells her that despite Willa being back, she's not going to be replaced. They go in and as Wynonna shoots at Jolene, both Jolene and Cora come upon him, using their hypnotic powers, noticing that he is different from the others. He is somewhat broken out of the trance after Wynonna kills Jolene, and he goes in search of Cora. He manages to coerce her out until Wynonna sends her to Hell as well. After the incident with Willa shooting a revenant in the eyes of civilians, he confronts her about it until Wynonna angrily walks out. He comforts Waverly about her situation with Willa being back until they are under attack by men with guns. He shoots at the men as Waverly is grazed by a bullet on her side. He helps her as Wynonna goes after Willa once again. After the final assassin is killed, Dolls reveals that he found his photo on one of the men and a hit had been put out.

In House of Memories, he uses hypnotism on Willa as a way to help her remember and while they get some answers, Willa wants to stop as it's hurting her. He and Wynonna later discuss the deceased mercenaries and he shows her a photo of a mercenary's tattoo, which Wynonna sees it's related to the Machetes. He is then given a report by Randy and the two then go to town to investigate the Machetes hangout. The two fight the members inside and Dolls gets Flip to tell them that Cryderman hired them. He also shows Wynonna the abandoned, charred car of Doc's at the junkyard as she believes he left town for good. He and Wynonna head to Shorty's, and they spot Cryderman about ready to hang himself. They receive some answers about the judge working for Bobo and the revenant is hosting a party where the lead will be. After the judge blows his brains out, the two sort out a plan with Waverly and Willa and the group gets ready for the party. At the party, he is caught off guard by Wynonna's appearance and he realizes also that a revenant needs a willing Earp heir to cross the border during the Winter Solstice. He and Wynonna talk about her not being special, but he states she doesn't need to be the heir in order to be special. The two then kiss until they are interrupted by a still living Doc, who takes a whiff of champagne and reveals that Bobo has poisoned the champagne. As they try to warn the guests, Bobo shows up and reveals he had poisoned the champagne to the guests. He gives the ultimatum of giving him Wynonna, dead or alive, in order to receive the antidote. While Bobo leaves, the guests begin to encircle the three as Dolls and Doc stay by Wynonna's side.

In I Walk the Line, as the townspeople try to get closer to Wynonna, Dolls and Doc decide to push her out the window while they fight off the guests. The two then head to the sheriff's office to gain some weapons and Dolls gives some vague answers regarding the serum he takes to Doc. The two head to Shorty's and begin fighting the revenants that are holed up in it until Dolls gets injured. He is carried out by Doc and the gunslinger injects the serum into his neck, reviving Dolls. His eyes gain a reptilian, yellow-colored shape and asks how much Doc had given him. He tells Doc to step back as he walks in and throws a couple of revenants out the window. He and Doc then go downstairs, gaining the poison that Bubba had made while they see Wynonna has walked in as well. Dolls tells Wynonna to go stop Willa as he needs to stay to help with the quarantine alongside Black Badge. As he is getting treated back at the Wainwright, he and Lucado talk about there being two Earp heirs and the carnage that could happen if the revenants walk out of the Triangle. He asks his superior what he has done and she tells him it's because he got out of Kandahar while others didn't. He arrives near the gate and shoots Willa in the stomach as she is taken by a huge tentacled monster. After Willa is mercy killed, Dolls is taken by Black Badge as he left the hotel, which Lucado told him would be treason if he did. He then watches as Bobo suffers from crossing over the border and burns to crisp as Wynonna sends him to Hell.

Wynonna Earp[]

Agent Dolls likes Wynonna but isn't good with his feelings hence he doesn't tell her. They have also kissed twice. In Bury Me With My Guns On, Wynonna demanded that he should tell her that he cares about her for once, but he couldn't. Nonetheless it is obvious that he cares about her deeply in the finale of Season 1, when he swept in to rescue her even at the face of a treason charge. He was thrown into a Black Badge Division prison for his actions, but Wynonna assembled a team to rescue him, with guns blazing.

In Whiskey Lullaby, Dolls finally makes a move on Wynonna, asking her out for coffee. Before he can tell her how he feels, the entire town falls under a sleeping curse. Right before Wynonna goes off to confront the Widows he shares a tender kiss with her and tells her that she is an amazing agent. At the end of the episode, Dolls reverts to his cold persona and sternly tells Wynonna that he is her boss, even though Black Badge was dissolved.

Personality[]

Dolls is very controlled and cool. He handles even stressful situations with poise and logic. Dolls can sometimes be overly serious and intimidating such as when he threatened Nicole with treason for entering the Black Badge office without permission. His chill persona makes it hard for him to relay how he feels to Wynonna. Dolls is extremely loyal and bold and does not hesitate to risk his life for the greater good and for the safety of those he loves. Even though Dolls is a soldier and is used to following orders, he defies his orders in favor of his own sense of what is right. This can be seen when he rescued Wynonna in season 1 episode 13. Dolls is extremely secretive and does not trust easily, as a result he does not have many friends and did not inform Wynonna of the struggles he was facing due to his mutation and needing the injections.

Doc: "Deputy Marshal Dolls is many things, he's stubborn, he's humorless, he's principled, and he's strong. He's a good man."
